I get bored with Windows, but Linux is always need damn a lot of config to get it work, Mac is a nice difference way of how an OS work http://www.almaer.com/blog/archives/001207.html However, there is one aspect that linux lead against all other OSs in software upgrade, as the OS distributor don't really develop the core of the system. They all putting a lot of effort of package management, turn out there are really nice approach coming out from Linux world, like debian APT or gentoo's Portage.
